Heart Shaped Boards and a Wedding Rehearsal Party

Flowers in a Mason Jar

Flowers in a Mason Jar

A wedding rehearsal party is an essential plan to your process.  This event symbolizes that last night of being single and celebrating the next day’s nuptials.  It also represents how thankful you both are to your family and friends for being a part of your special day.  Normally, this is done at a restaurant or it can be catered at a special location.  But I want to give you ideas on how to use decor to establish the mood as a beginning to the wedding event festivities.

Heart Shaped Cutting Boards

1. Decorate the room with fresh flowers (color is your choice – I recommend white flower and use color ribbons to represent the colors of your wedding).  Add them in a mason jar and bring the mood to a rustic yet elegant affair.

2. Use burlap as a table cover.  Not completely covering the entire table.  Use the tablecloth provided and add burlap diagonally.

3. Use heart shape cutting boards as serving platters.  Perfect mood setting.  Put your appetizers on it, main course, desserts … awesome!  Better yet, engrave one of them with your first names and your wedding date on it and display it right as your guests enters the room.  Brilliant!

Heart Shaped Cutting Board as Wedding Gift

Perfect!  What a better way to give a wonderful gift to the bride and groom than a heart shaped cutting board as a wedding gift.  Even better, engrave it and make it an heirloom they cannot forget.  Here are a few ideas on what to engrave.

Last Names Engraved and the Year

Last Names Engraved and the Year

1. Their NEW last names and their wedding date.

2. A saying or a quote to add to their names and their wedding date.  This is especially meaningful if the couple is really known for it.

3. The couples’ first names.  Always a popular decision.  Don’t forget the wedding date on it.

4. Add a logo to their names.  Sometimes, a symbol that represents the couples’ favorite place or favorite logo of a bottle of wine or beer can make the handmade wedding gift extra special.  It will make them chuckle and they will always know the gift came from you.

5. A simple “Congratulations” from YOU will be just fine.

Whatever you decide, it will be a wedding gift that is unique, one of a kind, special and fabulous.  Couple the cutting board with cheese knives and some of their favorite crackers and cheeses to have the newly weds start remembering their special day.

Wood vs Plastic Cutting Boards for a Handmade Wedding Gift

Wood Cutting Boards

Wood Cutting Boards

Wood vs plastic cutting boards are always dependent on what your preference would be for the newly weds.  They both have great advantages and usages.

Plastic Cutting Boards
1. Easily cleaned – dishwasher safe
2. Can be bleached
3. Affordable which means you can have several of these boards to use on a variety of different types chopping (ie, meats, chicken, seafood, and/or vegetables).
4. Can be use as a serving platter.

Wood Cutting Boards
1. Only wash via soap and water. Not to be placed into a dishwasher as it can cause it to dry up rapidly, crack and/or split.
2. Must maintain it by applying mineral oil on the board at least once a month. Preferably once a week. This step can help last the wood cutting board for many years.
3. Wood is a natural fighter of bacteria. Bacteria itself disappears on the surface of the board without even cleaning it. Talk about convenient. What it cannot help with is odor and stain which is why you want to wash it with soap and water.
4. Can be used as a serving tray.
5. Can be colorful and decorative.

The decision to choose is based on your tastes with decor and functionality.

How to Choose the Right Handmade Wedding Gift

Got invited to a wedding this year?  The minute you get that invitation and see the date, you start to calculate in your head how long you have before you can start to shop for their wedding gift.  Where to go?  Choosing the right wedding gift is always challenging. You start to sift through the invitation looking for where the couples’ are registered at then look it up online, download the list and start shopping.  Easy right? How about considering a gift from the heart.  A gift you know they will cherish and perhaps keep as an heirloom?  Consider a handmade wedding gift.  If you are creative yourself, do it yourself.  Even better.

Here’s a few of my choices of a handmade wedding gift you can consider.  Check it out.

1. Custom engrave cutting board – yep that’s right.  Engraved the bride and groom’s first name along with their wedding date right onto the handmade wood cutting board.  Perhaps consider adding a quote from their invitation or the address of their home together.  Either way, it’ll be well received.

2. Their wedding invitation framed.  I love this idea.

3. Champagne glasses engraved with either their names or Mr and Mrs on it.  Very cute.

Handmade Wedding Gifts for Every Couple

When buying a wedding gift, sometimes the choices can be one-sided either for him or for her (mostly for her, right?).  The groom would most likely choose gift items like tools or sports theme.  I know I’m stereo-typing.  Just going off experience.  My husband would have loved to put down a 12-inch blade compound miter saw or a drum sander on our wedding registry.  I compromised and told him we’ll put down a Home Depot gift card.  LOL.  But what would be the perfect, ideal handmade wedding gift you can give for every couple?  Here’s my take on that.

1. Handmade wood cutting board – custom engraved and personalized.  Someone cooks between the two of them.  They are going to use a cutting board and what better way to remind them of their happy day than to engrave it with their names and wedding date on it.

2. Handmade framed art – personalized.

3. Handmade wedding album – personalized made out of wood and engraved with their names and wedding date.  Brilliant!

4. Custom engraved beer pilsners (his and her).  Ok this is not necessarily handmade but you got to admit, this is pretty cool!

5. Handmade home decor – personalized with their picture.

Valentine’s Day and a Handmade Gift | Custom Engrave Cutting Board

Valentine’s Day is a traditional yearly holiday dedicated to couples.  Awesome!  A day that you can officially celebrate with your SPOUSE or SPICE of your life.  And everywhere you go, businesses (especially restaurants) celebrate right back with you with having roses and champagne ready for the couples to enjoy the start of their evening.  It really doesn’t matter what day of the week Valentine’s falls on.  Every couple out there celebrates no matter what.  The challenge is usually the following: (1) where to go to celebrate Valentine’s Day either dinner or a getaway (2) what to buy as a gift.  Am I right?

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine’s Day

Gifts are generally subjective.  But I do say find the right gift for the love of your life even if you think it’s a little corny.  Find out what makes them happy.  Pay attention to their face when they light up each and every time they see something.  That would give you an idea what to get as a gift.  Of course, you always have the chocolate and flowers as the good ‘ole standby but I say be creative.  Get something handmade or make it yourself.  Nothing says “I Love You” than a handmade gift.  Do they cook?  How about a handmade cutting board?  Just a thought.

Wedding season is here!  Actually, it never ends.  There is always someone getting married at any given time of the year.  Love knows no limits or time for that matter.  But what do you do to go out and buy them a wedding gift?  First thing I would do is go through their wedding registry.  Find out what they need and get an idea of how they want to establish their decor as a couple.  You can definitely get an idea of what their tastes will be like by the choices they make in their wedding registry.  Also, where they are registered at.  That’s important.  But I’m not really here to encourage you to buy something from their registry.  What I am encouraging you is to find out what they need.  Something functional, daily use and eye catching.  Then take that idea and buy handmade.

How about a handmade cutting board?  Who doesn’t need a cutting board for their cutting?  An even better idea is a handmade cutting board custom engraved with their names and their wedding date on it.  Functional, useful, memorable and definitely eye catching.  Don’t buy a cutting board that is plain.  Buy one that has color and that resonates with you based on what you’ve come up with as their idea of decor through their wedding registry.  Brilliant!

When is a Handmade Wedding Gift an Heirloom

Custom Engraved Cutting Board

A handmade wedding gift blows away buying a wedding gift from their registry.  What is even more valuable is buying a handmade wedding gift that is functional and the newly weds can use right away.

So what are functional handmade wedding gifts and when do they become an heirloom.  When they are a handmade cutting board customized and personalized with the bride and groom’s first names with their wedding date on it.  Even better, when the custom engraved cutting board is made from repurposing and upcycling unused scrap hardwoods.  Yup.  You heard that right.  A functional, personalized and contributing back into our world by repurposing unused scrap hardwoods.  What a story!  When one thinks outside the box, you never know what you can come up with on how creative you can be.

But don’t stop there.  Here’s a few ideas on handmade wedding gifts you can give as well.

Mr and Mrs Pillows

Mr and Mrs Pillows

1. His and her pillowcases.  Embroidered with their initials and their wedding date.

2. His and her towels.  Embroidered with their initials.  Try getting the colors of their wedding as a remembrance of that special night.

3. DIY (do it yourself).  Make an heirloom piece out of their invitation.  If you are creative and want to give the couple something truly special.  Try this.

When shopping around for a wedding gift, you often ask yourself should you buy what they need or should you go and give them something they will cherish as an heirloom?  Buying what they need requires you to know what they want hence the wedding list from the various stores like Macy’s, Target, Bed Bed and Beyond, Pottery Barn and/or Williams Sonoma.  Giving the bride and groom something they will cherish is a whole other challenge.  How about something they will cherish and have it functional now.  I can see your eyes widening.  What?  How … what?  Consider a handmade wedding gift that is a custom engraved cutting board.  Bang!  Two birds with one stone … right?

But what do you engrave?  Here’s a few visual ideas to consider.

Custom Engraved Cutting Boards as a Perfect Wedding Gift

IMG_5421What an idea!  When shopping for the bride and groom for the their special day, it is often considered to look at their registry to find what their needs are.  Functional and easy.  The bride and groom made it easy for you as they told you what they need or want.  But how about checking out something unique.  Something original.  A handmade wedding gift that is a custom engraved cutting board.  Definitely a WOW factor!  A handmade cutting board is functional and ideal.  Not to mention that it’s handmade not something you bought at a store and you personalize it.  Here’s a few ideas on how to make this wedding gift an heirloom by engraving it.

1. Bride and groom’s names on it and their wedding date.

2. The newly wed’s last names and the year they were married.

3. The street address of their new home together and the date they were married.

4. Simply say “Congratulations” from you (add your names either the family name or just the couple’s names).  The bride and groom will know where this gift came from.

5. Add another saying like “happy wedding bliss” or “just for for the special couple”.  Adding your saying will give the gift more depth on remembrance.
