Who are we?
Established in 2009, Mac Cutting Boards handcrafts one-of-a-kind, custom engraved cutting boards. All our products are made from unused scrap hardwoods and produced in San Francisco’s “DogPatch” district. Mac Cutting Boards sources our materials locally in the Bay Area such as hardwood flooring installers, cabinetmakers, furniture craftsmen and so on. We take all their unused scrap woods, repurpose and upcycle each piece into a one of kind custom cutting boards as long as each piece is unused, untreated and of course, scrap. These were end pieces of projects that generally would be thrown away or used for kindling. We started our business with the idea in mind to save money on materials and supplies only to find ourselves with OUR STORY and contributing to a bigger solution to our world … repurposing and upcycling.
Each wood cutting board is unique and no two are alike.
Mac Cutting Boards only uses quality hardwoods such as WALNUT, MAPLE, CHERRY and MAHOGANY as an example of the various hardwoods we use to make our wood cutting boards. We sometimes get lucky with hardwoods such as PURPLE HEART, BRAZILIAN CHERRY, LYPTUS, ZEBRA, and KOA with each scrap bundle we purchase. When we do, Mac Cutting Boards infuses these exotic woods into the wood cutting board to create an elaborate look show casing your wood cutting board in your kitchen or dining room. Each wood cutting board and breadboard are hand rubbed numerous times with a mixture of mineral oil and natural beeswax to give the wood cutting board luster and shine. The natural color of each hardwood that makes up the wood cutting board and breadboard magnifies when you care for them. Here’s how we construct each wood cutting board:
- Utilizes hardwoods in inventory,
- Wood cutting boards are cut to length and width
- Edge grain construction
- FDA approved foodservice glue
- Plane and sand using 400 grit sandpaper for a smooth surface.
- Hand rubbed numerous times with a mixture of mineral oil and natural beeswax – let dry overnight
- All top edges are routed for safety and design
- Can be custom engraved (must allow additional 2-3 weeks)
Because each wood cutting board is different, the sizes (width, length, and thickness) will vary. Keep in mind that the thicker the wood cutting board, the heavier it will be.
Mac Cutting Boards also takes custom orders. We can build a wood cutting board for you. Just tell us the size and your preference of woods and we will build it for you. Generally we can ship custom orders in about 3-5 weeks. If you need it sooner, just let us know. Helpful hint, measure your kitchen counter, then decide what size you would like your wood cutting board to be to fit right into your kitchen. We make a variety of different designs and sizes of wood cutting boards such as butcher block end grain wood cutting boards, animal shape wood cutting boards, paddle shape wood cutting boards, serving and carving wood cutting boards (generally they are a bit thinner than a normal wood cutting board) and a variety of bread and cheese wood cutting boards.
These wood cutting boards are beautiful and unique making them the perfect housewarming gift, wedding or bridal shower gift, or even birthday and graduation! The design of each wood cutting board is reversible. Cut on one side and serve or display on the other. Buy the best wood cutting board you can afford, take care of it and it is likely that your grandchildren will be using it.
How do you care for your cutting board?
No cook can do without a quality cutting board, and many people prefer a particular type or design in their wooden board. Our cutting boards will last for years and years, but some amount of care is necessary. If you follow our suggestions they will help ensure that your cutting board lasts a long time and is always safe from any food-borne bacteria.
Your board was hand rubbed numerous times with a mixture of natural bees wax and mineral oil. Oiling a cutting board is essential because detergents and soaps used for cleaning tend to dry out the wood, causing splits and an overall shorter useful lifespan. If you purchased a Bread board, it can simply be brushed off with a dry towel.
To ensure your cutting board enjoys a long life, re-oil the board depending on the frequency of washing, as soaps remove the oils in the wood. This could be as often as every few weeks to several months. As wood dries out, it gets a ‘thirsty’ washed-out looking appearance, but as a general rule, a monthly coat of mineral oil will keep it ready for action. Apply the oil liberally, and rub into the wood with a clean cloth. A paper towel will work also. Stand the board on end, or prop up for a few hours, re-oiling until the wood does not absorb any more oil. Wipe off any excess.
To remove stains, generously sprinkling regular table salt over the surface of the board, and rub it with a sliced lemon. Rinse well with hot water. Baking soda also works to remove odors, especially if you’ve been working with onions, garlic, or other strong scented foods. Be sure to re-oil your board after it has thoroughly dried.
Thank you for your purchase. If you follow these easy instructions you will enjoy your cutting board for years to come.

It is of the utmost importance that any damages are reported to us as soon as possible and not later than 10 days from receipt of packages because no damage claims will be accepted by shipping companies after 10 days from date of delivery. If you allow this time to elapse no claims can be made; a return cannot be accepted and we will be unable to provide a replacement or refund. If you intend to store an item for later use you should unpack it and examine for possible hidden damage. Please report any damage by email to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be ready to help.
If a product has been damaged in transit, we will provide a replacement subject to our ownership (as described below). Most orders will not require a signature upon delivery but if a signature is requested please be sure to fully inspect the contents of your packages before signing for the order, even if the packaging seems in good condition. There may be hidden damages to the contents. Be sure to advise your family members or agent who may accept delivery on your behalf to do the same. If you do not have time to inspect your order upon delivery, or if you suspect possible damage, write “Un-inspected, possible damage” above or near your signature. Also, be aware that, when you sign for a package, you are signing a document transferring ownership to you; that states you have inspected the shipment and that it is in good condition.
Damage claims with Freight Carriers may only be made by the owner. So, if you do sign for a package and later realize it has been damaged in the shipping process, as the owner, you will need to file a claim with the freight company yourself and Mac Cutting Boards will be unable to help. However, we can help file a claim if signed with “Un-inspected, possible damage” as described above.
We can always help with such claims from UPS or Fedex Ground as they operate with different rules.
